Ben, forget your multifunction tester when it comes to RCD's. Use your multi meter, push the RCD button, and check that both poles have opened, and check the type and rating of the RCD. Job done, Regs complied with.

The only truly useful feature of the overpriced multifuction testers most of you buy is the Earth Loop Impedence tests, but then these can be done also with a multimeter and some calculation.

Hands up all those who know how to do that.

Hi Southsea,

I realise this was just for fun but in the interests of not getting into a bad place with the other forum you've linked I'm going to close this thread and remove the link.

There's also a 'people in glass houses' saying and there's a few notable threads around this forum that don't show the UK electricians in a good light so I'd rather not start a ----for-tat kinda thing if possible.
