Unfortunately paperwork and maths are not my best or favourite subjects:confused: I am far better at beer and smokes:cool:

Have you got the ''Understanding Circuit Protection Series Part 2: Residual Current Devices'' DVD?

This is the only one I havn't got and I still havn't decided wether I want it or not. I was very dissapointed with Part 1 of the series. I learnt nothing, and the sound effects they used on it were really annoying and not necessary.

I've diverted into some of the learning lounge DVD's, presented by just David, no Tony.

These are good for reference, but arn't very educational.

Just to refresh my memory I just re-watched the Initial Verification DVD and I noticed a few points I would like your opinion on.

1) He did the lock off procedure then tested on the top of the main switch where the tails go in ? Why ?

2) He did his insulation resistance test through the whole main switch, which in turn fed a split load 2 RCD board so he has just sent 500V through all the RCD's and CB's internals even though the front of the CB's say 230/400V !

3) They both banged on again about Reg 14 of EWR and you must not ever test non-socket circuits for Zs,bla bla then went on to say this calculated value must be entered in the measured Zs box on cert ? Is it me or don't they realise it says measured ? surely there should be 2 boxes in that case one for a measured and one for a calculated that way next person to work on the board knows where their at ?

4) After testing the RCD's he went on to say that tests on non- socket RCBO's will have to be done as a live test at the board, not a dicki bird about EWR there then !

I see now where some of you guys on here seem to not take them too seriously. Rant over I was bored...ATB S :D

There are many more grey areas in the content of these DVD's. Unfortunately there has been too much publication of different interpretation in this industry. When I watch these DVD's now it is mainly to pin-point the inaccuracy within it.

I think it sounds like the videos on Learning Lounge - the flexible online learning resource for education and commerce - techincal training, health and safety, and corporate communications. which you can subscribe too for about £20 for a year access and there is loads of videos and if you have real player you can just down load them.

Would be interested to know if they are the same vids if anybody knows, is the PIR on where they go into the house and CU is under the stairs with an old rewireable fuse box and Tony cable inspects it while the other bloke calls up the DNO?.

So your not signed up to the learning lounge as that part 2 is on there, I agree with the cheesey music and other naff things they do, like david laying in a bath naked on one of the vids to demonstrate the zones!.

No I'm not. It's not cost affective for me to purchase 'x' amount of learning lounge licence's in comparison with 'x' amount of license DVD's form both the Learning lounge and NICEIC.

I'm tempted to sign up though as a single member just to preview these Vids.

I am guessing as you are a tutor you have to pay extra, my old tutor used to show us the vids but I think he just downloaded them via real player for free, bit dodgy for some though maybe.

Yeah. When I work sessionally I'm more than happy to bring them in and use them. But we've started up our own traing centre and so we have to behave ourselves (mostly).
