I have been asked to fit light switches outside of various cupboards with integral indicators so that the client doesnt forget to leave light on.. I have used 20A appliance switches with neons so far - BG ones are quite cheap, about £2.80 plus vat - but does anyone know if there is such a thing as a switch with indicator not needing a neutral, as this entails running two cables to switch?
I seem to remember seeing light switches with an indicator glow behind the fascia in communal flats once, whether these needed a neutral or not I dont know.. is it possible they could be purely resistive?

Any info/advice received with thanks..

The switches with a locator neon are wired across the switch. They only glow when the switch is off and use the load as the neutral return path. Works fine with GLS lamps; may cause flickering when off with CF or LED.

The MK masterseal range had the facility to wire the neon via common and L1

You will need a neutral for the light to be on when the light is on. This shouldn't be too difficult for cupboard lights as the neutral will not be far away!

Alternative would be for a door switch or PIR in the cupboard, then the light won't be left on!

yes, quite agree and its not difficult, just wondered if anything else existed really. I did suggest a door switch but he has had bad experiences with them ie not always operating properly. Hadnt thought of a PIR but I guess its then getting a bit pricey..

In Paris I often saw light switches which glowed when the were off, so you could find them in the dark.
This was in the hotels I stopped in. I thought it was a good idea really.
