Ive been asked to install a new circuit for an induction hob. The customer doesnt have the appliance as of yet but after a little bit of searching i managed to find the technical info i was after. The total load is stated as 3.68kw, but it also states that there are 2 x burners rated at 1.4kw and 2 others rated at 1.8kw. Obviously adding the burners together gives me a rating much bigger than the 3.68kw stated. As the kitchen is due to be plastered this week i need to get my first fix done for this circuit and was just wondering whether to cover my arse with a cable big enough to take the load of the 4 x burners or whether a diversity factor has been applied and i should just work of the 3.68kw total load.

10kw /230= 44A . First 10+ 30%. 6mm is fine in my gfs eyes

You obv haven't a clue.. I take it you domestic installer with ambition

Although you havnt really helped have you, where do you get your 10kw from. Is this the 4 x burners added together with the 3.68kw total load? If so why isnt the total load stated as 10kw? All youve done is try to be cocky and completely missed my my point with your accusations, i can only assume you know everything with such an attitude.

By my calc assuming the full load is ~ 10kW @ 230V = 43A. With diversity = 10A + 30% (43 - 10) + 5A for a socket if fitted ~ 25A

I doubt whether 3.6Kw includes diversity as this equates to ~ 16A. The only thing I can think of is does the cooker allow you to run everything at once? Some limit the total load that can be applied at any one time so maybe thats what the 3.6kW refers to?

If in doubt give the manufacturer a tinkle ......

So what size cable are you going to put in then?

Given my uncertainty over the total load and the fact that i have a little bit of cable on my van going spare going for 6mm2, after all what will do a lot will do a little. Its just about covering my arse as i initially stated and was after people opinions on whether they would also err on the side of caution, given the time restraints on the job. What i got was sombody questioning my ability and trying to teach me how to suck eggs.

As above. The total rating of the four burners is 6.4kW, 27.8A. So with a 30A circuit, you'll sleep easy.

Thanks iamelectric i did wonder if this is the case. So in this thread alone i have a few different answers, so not as obvious as some people suggest. Theres even another thread started and i can only assume they are reffering to this thread of mine when they complain about people not knowing how to apply diversity! Now where do i say i dont know how to apply diversity?

lol just take it on the chin mate its just part of this forum , doesnt matter what you ask you will get all sorts of ---- off people , just go with it
