Life was simple back in the day, raising a family and living in a shack. Then they invented electricity and people found life more exciting with a whole new way to die.

Electricity was and is dangerous and in May 1882 the first rules and regulations were made protecting people from shock, fire and death. Prophetically, these were called the First Editon.

They may have been old fashioned but they weren’t stupid, they knew by adding a few pages every couple of years they could change the number and charge more each time.

These first rules weren’t much, inspection involved the condition of “The Generator” and testing was probing circuits with electric currents. So how did they do this?.

Well, continuity was probably done with a bell and battery, nicked from a telephone, and insulation resistance with a hand cranked generator, also nicked from the telephone. After all these rules were for the Society of Telegraph Engineers and Electricians.

Live testing was probably by switching on to see if it worked, a practice that has persisted to today. So what do you think, were things really better in the olden days?

However, across the pond, Americans who love new and exciting technologies, developed the electric chair. This was not to warm your bottom, but to fry it!

That's cause its fixed equipment;) :p
No it aint it's ISTIEE or ISITEE Never can remember the right way, ISTIEE or whatever is the testing of electrical equipment, be it portable, fixed, Mobile, transportable etc basically power consuming apparatus, even if it's screwed down it still comes under the CoP.

Quite right Pete anything connected to a SUPPLY becomes part of the SYSTEM and must be tested.

Pat wasn't in it that day , he was the day after.
He was supposed to be in that day.
Oi you 2 lay off will you, as Tel once said age is just a number, after the news I have just had the past few days I feel 21 again.

Pete it's like throwing breadcrumbs into a fish pond, the fish come up to take the bread and you take the bait, every time

If you look carefully it's made of non conductive materials, any additions are considered excluded from the rules
The Irish sparky looking after those chairs, got fired last week, he reported that the chairs were so badly maintained, they were a death trap and could kill someone, boom boom

So is Pete short for Peterick or is he just a bit short?
Dopey question there Oracalrick, Pat is also short for Patricia, the only one I'm concerned about.
Going off topic a bit Lads, shall we all grow up and act like the sensible people we like to think we are?

LYRICS
Dennis is a menace with his "anyone for tennis?"
And beseeching me to come and keep the score
And Maud saya "Oh Lord! I'm so terribly bored!"
I really can't stand it anymore
I'm going out to dinner, with a gorgeous singer
To a little place I've found down by the quay
Her name is Patricia, she calls herself Delicia
And the reason isn't very hard to see
She says God made her a sinner just to keep fat men thinner
As they tumble down in heaps before her feet
They hang around in groups like battle-weary troops
One can often see them queue right down the street
You see Patricia, or Delicia, not only is a singer
She also removes all her clothing
For Patricia is the best stripper in town
And with a swing of her hips she started to strip
To tremendous applause she took off her drawers
And with a lick of her lips she undid all the clips
Threw it all in the air, and everyone stared
And as the last piece of clothing fell to the floor
The police were banging on the door
On a Saturday night, in nineteen twenty-four
Take it away boys!
But poor Patricia was arrested and everyone detested
The manner in which she was exposed
And later on in court, well, everybody thought
A summer run in jail would be proposed
But the judge said, "Patricia
Or may I say, Delicia
The facts of this case lie before me
Case dismissed, this girl was in her working clothes!"
And with a swing of her hips, she started to strip
To tremendous applause she took off her drawers
And with a lick of her lips she undid all her clips
Threw it all in the air, and everyone stared
And as the last piece of clothing fell to the floor
The police were yelling out for more!
On a Saturday night in nineteen twenty-four

Growing up and acting sensible Pete, try to keep up, old fella, it was your remark he's commenting on
Was I commenting? I was remarking on how the thread had gotten a bit off topic that's all

I have deleted some posts from this thread due to the possibility some may find it offensive. Can you consider what you are typing before posting.

You can't offend me by associating me with anyone with a proven grasp of grammar, diction and spelling. It's the Sun readership that make me cringe.

"Six munths ago I carnt spel eliktrishin and now I is one"

I weep for this generation....

Returning to the first edition .
Twin core ,( probably both) wired fuses .
New fangled ,carbon filament incandescents .
For no messing/no sooty stains on wall ,lighting on demand.
(Tungsten filaments not patented till 1904)
----CAUTION-- source = Wiki==----
" Testing may be interesting depending on local supplier 'Earthing' arrangements"...speculation...

It was DC no earthing provided for years to come, long after AC was invented

Oliver B. Shallenberger Invents the A.C. Watt-Hour Meter. On 14 August 1888 he received a patent for the watt-hour meter, a device that measured the amount of A.C. current and made possible the business model of the electric utility.
