Evening all. New to the forum and was wondering what peoples thoughts were on installing downlights near plastic heating pipes ?

I was planning to install some enlite E6 LED downlights in my hall way.

I somehow managed to pick a spot right in between a couple of pipes.

Looks like I'll need to replan.

you were lucky not to get a shower when the saw broke through.

if they are hot water / heating pipes I would not put a downlight right there, the lack of cooling due to increased ambient temperature will shorten the life of the fitting dramatically and is almost certainly outside of the manufacturers instructions.

sorry for the bad news.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes, I was lucky, but thankfully proceeding with caution avoided an unplanned shower.

Not planning on fitting any lights there, really just wondering what peoples thoughts were.

Get some down lights with a lower profile.

Don‘t think it will make much of a difference, down lights are install in a closed ceiling void, with all sorts of CH and hot water pipes. As long as the fitting has a physical gap, think it will be ok.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm looking to see where else I can position the lights before making further holes. The places I had chosen would make ideal locations for 4 lights on a fairly small hallway.

The heating pipes are plastic, so once I get my inspection camera replaced, I will check out the ceiling space to see whether I can move the pipes.

Tjere is plenty of space to move them upwards though....

I would rather avoid lifting the floor above.
