Sorry for the huge 1st post here but i really need some advise, i'm 99.9% sure i'mright but want to put this out there to be sure....here goes....

Working on a new build house. Client has a friend who is a lighting designer. Lighting designer is wanting to put low voltage led wall lights in. These lights are recessed and plastered into the wall, he had asked for 240v to each light position.

I have wired it loop in at the switch, taken a switch wire/neutral from the switch to the first light then from light 1 to light 2 and so on. I have since found out that the driver would sit in the wall and can't be accessed after wall is finished. I have pointed out that I can't just hide drivers in the wall.

He has now asked to me put a bigger driver in the services cupboard and take the 8v DC supply from the driver to the switch and then round to each light position.

I have tried to point out that this won't work as it is wired in 1.5mm t&e and the cable isn't suitable due to the volt drop.
Doing some rough calculations I've worked out that to keep within the 3% volt drop, I would have to use 70mm cables!!!!

The cable run from the driver through the 2 way and intermediate switches to the last light is around about 50m and the load is 7.5A, having explained this the designer has said it's alright 1.5mm cable is fine he'll just get a bigger driver!!!!!! He just isn't getting it.

Am I correct or am I missing something regarding LED drivers
:banghead:

The fittings are cast from plaster and are recessed and plastered into the wall. The idea of them is to throw light down the wall onto the floor or up the wall in to the ceiling. They are flush with finished wall!

The LEDs come fitted into the fitting although they can apparently be screwed out and replaced if they fail

Update... Designer has seen the light (see what i did there) and gone for the 240v version of the lights, apart from some lights on staircases. Have managed to get drivers located nearer to these ones meaning that no light is further than 5m away. :hurray:
