I used hammer in tie bases for tidying up some external IT cabling (about 6 cables along the run) at high level; by the time I had finished, from the ground it just looked like there was a black mortar joint along the wall, which was less obtrusive and much more flexible than installing conduit, tray, clipping each cable directly, or any other containment method. You're not suggesting that as a way of installing surface wiring surely?
In this application it'd look awful, but it can look good.
