I see no problem with using the output of the alarm with activating a 12V contactor or relay, as long as the coil load doesnt take to much and blow the fuse. You also have to make sure the contacts are capable of taking the current from the lights. How many light are you turning on?

If the output on the alarm is very small you could use one of my cheats.

12v output fires a relay, that fires a big contractor that switches the load.

It's only going to be switching one light I'm told! but could have multiple lamps so could still be a few hundred watts! Which is like a couple off amp! Can't see the coil blowing the fuse in the panel, but I like the relay method as I'm fitting a speach dialler too which might use the same 12v supply!

a lot of panels have a voltage free relay built in. use that to trigger your relay.

have to use the bell O/P then. cheap panels!. LOL.

I'm pretty sure there's no volt free on the veritas r8, there is defiantly a 12v sw connection which is for latching devices, not 100% if it's even going to work!
