Hi All. So i am 30 years old and thinking to change my career. At this moment i am working for a builders merchant as a manager and earning 28k, but I really want to change my career. Thinking to lear electrician trade, but not sure how to start and where to start. I have a family and i need constant income to live, cannot do full timers training or apprentice. Would like to hear stories from a people who recently completed training and how they doing now? Any good training Centres in southampton?

You could try being a sparky mate on your day off just to see if you like it.
I have a friend who was a leisure centre manage who did Saturdays with a sparks and did tradeskillsforyou evening classes to get his 17th Ed and testing and inspect quals.
He is now a full time sparks running his own business with about 6 full time employees

Do it because that's what you want to do/enjoy doing if you do go for it.

Don't do it for the money. It will be years before you can earn more than in your current role.

You have to love being an electrician to really make a good living at it

I know several people who used this place

The UK's No.1 for C&G Electrical Courses & Training - https://www.tradeskills4u.co.uk/pages/courses

I can’t vouch for them personally but have heard they are pretty good centres

I know that if i will do it i will enjoy it, same as any trade. I still consider between plumbing, carpenter and electrician. Doesn’t matter what i will pick it up i know i will like it, because i do like be responsible for my work, I want to be proud in final result, that is why I always give 100% of my self. But money are important as well, I cannot afford live on love income as i have to support my family, bills to pay. I know it is electrician forum, but did anyone started one trade and moved to another afternoon a while? Because thinking to start as general labour, and move my way up, get some tools, get connections with other people, and then start studying

You do get quite of ‘multi skill’ people

Certainly meet a lot of plumbers who fit kitchens , bathrooms , wall & floor tiling etc
