I am looking to plant around 400 bulbs! As you can see, it would be quite a big ask, so I am looking to buy a cordless drill for my garden auger ( It’s a 3 inch diameter auger)

Actually, my neighbor has got a 18V dewalt and initially, I thought about asking for the drill. Then something hit my mind and I’m wondering whether any drill is enough for my task or if there is any special feature/specification do you guys look at when planting.

I also heard many use Gas Powered Post Hole Digger.

What you guys actually do?

Will greatly appreciate any advice,Thanks.

I've never planted a bulb in my life (except for some scrap fluorescent tubes under some HV lines between pylons), but I have used my 18V Bosch for stirring plaster with a 3" auger type thing on many occasions, which it does effortlessly.
Any 18V drill with a 2 speed gearbox should be able to do your job. How good a make you go for depends what else you may use it for afterwards.
I attended a tool suppliers 'open day' once, and they explained that the cheapest drills they stocked had a design life of just 4 hours, which, when you think about it, would last an occasional DIYer for years, but for someone in my line of work, would mean replacing it every week or so.

are these 40 bulbs LED or halogen? we need to protect the enviromnment.
