Did a little job for a friend. It involved drilling out from the back of a socket outlet to supply a fused exterior light.

As the drill bit exited the brick it blew a small section of the brick face. It's a new build so the bricks are quite a red colour.

Any ideas how to make good in this situation?

I thought maybe clear silicone? Or maybe a mortar mix? However either of those won't be a match and will always be noticeable

Get some weatherproof clear glue and mix it with some of the dust, drill a brick out of sight it you need more dust to colour it, another option is get some grab adhesive/ filler and then on the last couple of mm push the brick dust into/onto it, when it dries, the dust will be solid and will blend in well.

I have no idea what you've just said.

Drill a smaller hole than is required first, and then drill from the outside, and the finish off by drilling from the inside, saves breakout and grief, simple trade craft really.

Brilliant. I'll have to invest in a small long drill bit now ;-)

Yes your right. It something I'm thin on the ground with. I've got 3 long drill bits. 5.5, 7 and 9. All of which are just obviously too thick.

Where are you based Pete?

if possible i always drill from outside, having measured twice. couple of inches out in plaster or the cardboard they dab on these days is no big deal to patch.

The proper way to deal with it would be to chop the brick out and replace it.

But if you’ve got all the pieces you could glue them back into place.

You should easily be able to drill out with a 5.5 or 7mm without blowing the brick out. 9 mm maybe pushing it but the other 2 should be fine. I’ll normally just take it off hammer for the last few mm and it should be fine.
