manual and automatic PAT Tester

do these exist? i am looking for a testing machine that can be operated both manually (1-2 button presses for speed testing) and also can set automatic test sequences and download/upload results to a pc.

i prefer manual testers because results can be interpretted easier and are a lot faster in general. however from time to time i get big jobs or jobs that the client requires emailed results which i need to be able to upload from the PAT tester.

i currently own a megger PAT4 dv3 but am selling it because it is too much hassle setting up for small/average size jobs and there is no quick test button.

does anyone know of any decent testers that can run manual tests yet be able to upload data?

Seaward 350 and the ethos 9600 do this ,they have bluetooth scanner facilities and download results to pc .record and print the forms and certificates with the appropriate software. Also print the pass/fail labels using bluetooth printer . Not cheap but a full package.

thanks but they don't do manual testing do they? plus i assume they are handheld and can't do earth leakage testing.

i heard that the robin smartpat 5000 might be able to do what i am looking for

anyone confirm this please?

I have a Kewtech KT71 and I am very pleased with it as it goes through say a class I test doing the earth then the IR test then it flashes the results on the screen as well as give you green pass leds or red fail and a change of audible tone. Plus if you get one from our sponsor you get a discount also have a look at the bundle ie test plugs carry case ect I found it very good value .

Yes they are hand held . They have manual test facility and also do earth leakage test /auto function test. they claim to be the fastest tester made. they do'nt do the high current test though.

aye and you`l be patting till domesday n all to pay for it..lol.....i have an old seaward 2000 which serves me well.....it was something given so i aint moaning ..even though its like a briefcase.....i know i wouldn`t shell out loads for a pat tester...i dont do much pat testing anyway....and have little interest in taking up the habit either....

Most modern PATs have become increasingly automated, I think you should look on the second-hand market for an older style PAT, something like a Metrotest MetroPAT 200 or 220 would meet you requirement for a simple to operate manual tester, and has all the earth bond, insulation and leakage tests (220 only) your likely to require, with CSV download capability that works with any Excel type spreadsheet or specialist software.

Yep I agree but it suits my needs as I test 8-12 items at any one time it can lie in a cupboard for a month at a time and as I say its horses for courses here if you are doing it day in day out then step up a gear but for me I just want something that will cover me plus I have the PAT templates all made up so its transfer a sheet of paper to the templates plus the most of my customers are happy with an electronic pdf copy. Also just to add you are cheaper buying lead adaptors on fleabay and your test kit from the sponsor of this siite.

Like everything else there are so many options ie I bought a Megger 1553 with bluetooth option at an extra £50 but have and will never use it
