Hi All,

Does anyone know what the latest firmware version for this tester is? Mine is on 3.54, which was an AM1 release and Metrel does not seem to have any newer AM3 firmware for this flagship tester despite newer AM3 firmware now being available for their other testers such as the 3100.
I did contact Metrel late last year only to be told the firmware would be released in due course, but it does seem to be dragging on a bit now. I know it's only a small issue with the fuse tables / max Zs values, and also the built in test reports if anyone uses them, but it really should be sorted by now I would have thought!

Rant Over! :)

Brian

Have you tried Metrel again?

I engaged them in conversation @ Elex, Sandown Park. I came away with the opinion that sales of new products came first, return to base maintenance came second (and a 2 week delay was the norm), and authorising 3rd parties to repair their products wasn't even on the list.

Not sure I would buy Metrel again!

We have the same tester and like you was told of the AMD3 firmware update would be ready by the end of July 2015, July came and went so I got in touch with them again and this is what they said.(My contact was Az Baksh - Metrel's business development manager)

Thank you for your e-mail below. With regards to amendment 3 for the MI3101 AT, unfortunately, this is one of the units that will not be able to be upgraded to the latest fuse tables for Amd 3 due to the current installed f/w. Our new s/w and f/w is not compatible with the AT series and we are also unable to import NIC EIC reports any longer as we have not been given a licence to do so.

I know results can be calculated manually, but this may not be the best solution for you. The only other option I can provide is a trade in of your current MI3101 AT for our new MI 3152 XC touch screen colour multifunction tester that has the latest s/w and is Amd 3 compatible (please see attached document).

If interested, please let me know

Kind regards

Az Baksh

To say I was disappointed is an under statement, the mi3101AT was ÂŁ950 excl the dreaded vat! I would never buy another Metrel again.

I would like to add that the above email was dated 31st August 2015 and on the 14th September Az sent me this:

Apologies for not replying earlier. I have further enquired with our R&D department and they have confirmed , unfortunately, there is not an Amd 3 upgrade available for your MI3101AT unit due to the s/w & f/w incompatibility. The following link https://www.youtube.com/user/Metreldd has 3 x You Tube videos that go into more detail on the MI 3152XC which you should find useful

With regards to a trade-in price, the advertised price for this unit will be £1290.00, but we will offer this to you for £850.00 (+VAT). Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.

Kind regards

What a load of Bxll shyte.

How does changing the lookup table affect the product so much?

This is more about "encouraging" people to buy a new tester - and for me it WILL NOT be Metrel.

What a farce.

What annoys me more than anything is that this tester was advertised as being 'future proof' to changes in the regs via upgraded firmware!(See link: Metrel MI3101 Eurotest AT Advanced Multifunction Tester) It was one of the key features and it's what made us go for this model in the first place. You would have thought they had an obligation but as you can see I didn't get very far in fact in a phone conversation with Az he told me it had been discussed at a board meeting in Slovenia and the offer they had made was as far as they could go to.
If I had the time and inclination I would have definitely pursued either a full refund on return of the tester or a swap to a similar model with nothing else to pay!
That's why I wont ever buy a Metrel instrument again. (I personally still own an older Metrel model but when that needs replacing I'll probably go for a Kewtech or similar)

I have been on the phone to Metrel today re my tester on which they have reinstalled the software after i bricked it whilst attempting to upgrade the firmware. They phoned me to tell me there was a another fault they found which they would be fixing free of charge. I have paid for a recalibration but the rest was free. I have to say they have been fantastic, nothing has been too much trouble. I do have the older tester but it has been upgraded to AM3. I have been really impressed, I agree you only take as you find but overall I have been impressed.

Let's hope they have picked up this thread and take note of user's feelings on the matter. Can't see it having any effect tho....:cuss:
