my 56 plate connect with 58k on it (company van) went in with a splutter and lack of power it was an injector about £400 quid to sort , then i got a call to say there was no compression on cylinder 2 and it needs a new engine!!

ford dont rebuild engines anymore it woul seem est for works £4000.00:(

hire van for me for the time being

There's plenty of places all over the country do reconditioned engines for all sorts of vehicles. I'd have thought you'd get it all sorted for under 2 grand. Even less if you just go for secondhand.

Trouble is the main dealer can only quote for a new engine.

I've rebuilt and tuned many engines over the years. No reason why a recon unit shouldn't last as long as a new one (like anything mechanical though, it needs looking after!!).

FORD TRANSIT CONNECT TDDI ENGINE 59K 02-08 NOT TDCI | eBay UK

FORD TRANSIT CONNECT 1.8 TDDI ENGINE - 2001+ | eBay UK

looks like £500-£600 plus a garage to fit .......

How if i may ask can they not rebuild the block with a new cylinder liner , piston , rings , is it a main dealer or a garage that you use a lot ??

Jamie

this one is like mine the 2 others are the old style

FORD TRANSIT CONNECT 2002- 1.8 TDCI ENGINE 90PS FITTED | eBay UK

yep its main dealer and they dont rebuild because ford wont warrenty a rebuild only one direct from them.

Well theres a few grand on top just by adding the word 'dealership'. Same happened to a friend of mine....corsa twinport engine was burned out...unfixable...took it to vauxhalls and told 2 grand for new engine alone plus labour to put it in around 3 grand. More than car was worth. Anyway they said no. Vauxhall asked to buy the car from them for 600 quid....no jokes here. In the end they got the engine for 300 (recon) and payed an mechanic 3oo to fit it.....scamming bhives the dealerships

Get a proper mechanic, dealerships just have fitters

I took a cavalier CDI 2.0L auto in when it was 5 yr old to main dealer as the gearbox had a fault
anyway charged me £300 had it 2 weeks so called 10 guys working on it lol some (technicians ) yeah right
I paid in full drove 2 yards fault reappeared on dashboard display gearbox goes into safe mode 50 mile a hour max and stuck in 3rd
back in full refund
took it to a Automatic Gearbox specialist straight from there He had it 30mins before i got home he had drove it to my house asked me who had been working on it as all they had done is wipe fault codes from computer by disconnecting battery
he told me it was 2 shift solenoids in gearbox 1 does 1st and 3rd and other 2nd and 4th £92 each £300 all in including initial diagnosis test which was £35
lucky it wasnt the master shift solenoid which was £800 new and £300 refurbed
never had a prob after and it lasted YRS

At main dealers all they do is fit parts and services, charge the earth take it to a good mechanic they offered me Pt ex on another I said yeah I do you a straight swap for the vectra otherwise a full refund will do
Never been back since got myself a mate who is expert mechanic Bikes ,Cars ,trucks you name it he will fix it and not for the earth
He picks my cars now lol and they never let me down
he can make a old wreck of a motorbike look brand new within weeks completly stripped down engine he has it set out like a work of art everything all polished and painted

Just bought a mint Y plate mondeo estate (with air con) for £800.

Better off spending yer money there

Have any of u tried your local bt garage? My van got an mot today 46 quid.Good lads for commercials n pretty reasonable compared to main dealers

I would never touch a ford again when mine dies 56 plate so far fuel pump, injectors, power steering and now trying to find a water leak ford are built by monkey's

Have you got the TDCI engine with the crystal injectors, i was warned off this engine in any form by a mate in the trade. I was told that around the 100k mark the injectors play up and its about £600 to fix, also pumps give aggro at similar mileages. Apart from the TDCI engines everything else is fairly bomb proof.

I wanted the 2.2 TDCi Mondeo, but for the above reasons i got a 2.0 Petrol.

Having owned Fords on and off for 30 years i have never had a major problem with them at all, in fact if anything they have been the best vehicles i have owned. I only ever had problems with a certain piece of French s**** my wife had, but thats another story.

Cheers...........Howard
