I've had a bit of a result here....

I got a van off a mate who leases to the council ;

2003 Transit Connect, serviced every 10,000 miles, long list of maintenance work including new clutch 2000 miles ago.. City van basically.

It came back pretty mint apart from a little dent in one of the back doors and a MASSIVE BLUE STRIPE DOWN BOTH SIDES. Yes.

These are mostly returned with tow bars, but this one hasn't got one so it's not been under too much strain....

41,168 miles!!!!! Not too shabby for an '03!!

£1600

WELL pleased.

It's a bit of a greenhouse at the moment, no bulkhead and clear glass windows in the back doors, but I reckon that's a council anti-theft thing so people can see that it's empty.

I'm going to put in a full steel bulkhead and get the rear windows caged and tinted but I can't complain for this price.

Then maybe a remap and some pretty wheels.

Ideally I'd like it to be doing the 1/4 mile in under 12 seconds.

Thought of scaffold and fibreglass for the bulkhead? May help with your frankly ambitious 12 seconds......

Nice tidy motor at a well good price.
Has it had the 'anti loom cutting mod' done yet ? Might be worth looking into.

Hmmmm 12 seconds maybe

Cheers.

I need to do this, there was a post not so long ago about that easy way in.

luverly jubbly @ that price you could buy a few n sell em 2 forum members lol

I'm going to talk to him... I did have a total result with this one (mileage etc), but still a good buy with double that I think.

The councils really look after their fleet mechanically.

Hi Colin,
Good idea to do the loom mod. I drive a 56 plate transit, apparently high on the list of vans for the scroats to break into, and I've done the mod. Dead easy took all of 5 mins to do.
Transit is the back door and I believe the Connect is the drivers door.

Cheers.
Lofty.

Brilliant bargin there mate. Mine is a 53 plate and has only just breached the 50k barrier, just started to get a few wear and tear issues. I've just had to replace the front headlight unit. Motor factors quoted £174 plus VAT for a new one :-0Went straight on eBay £60 brand new including delivery and VAT think the place was called Rollins or something like that they specialise in ford

What anti loom mod? Don't tell me the pikeys can snip their way in.

Quite easily with these apparently.

There was definitely a post in here or The Arms where it happened to one of us.

Please forgive my ignorance as to who it was.

Hey Colin

I'm going to be on the lookout for a new van later this year and could do with a contact like your mate, has he thought about offering forum members a chance to buy?

Or when i'm looking can I pass my number onto you to ask him to let me know what he has

Thanks

Let me know when you're looking and I'll find out for you mate.

i'm going to be looking for a Transit connect more than likely or even a transit (tbh I have had enough of my vauxhall combo and happy with ford reliability) now watch my car go and knack up. but just looking for something around that size will probs be in around 3-4 months and not bothered about colour having to be white although i know most ex leases are

Hi,
Just to confirm about the loom issue. Ford in their infinite wisdom designed the locking sytem to unlock when a switch is shorted and all the pikeys have to do is cut through the loom and the saw / knife blade shorts the cables for them and hey presto the doors unlock as if you've used the fob.

Trouble is Ford did recall some transits to mod them but the pikeys don't know if the mods been done as it still looks the same and still cut it. Doors stay locked but you still have to replace the loom; cost is about £300 !! and around here there was a waiting list for looms of up to 3 months. All the cables, 8 I think, in the loom are black and the same size so trying to repair it is a knightmare.

On the Connect they cut it in the gap between the drivers door and the front wing on the Transits there is a gap at the back doors and rear wing that you can drive a bus through and that's where they have to cut. The loom is in a really handy curved plastic conduit that takes the loom from the main body into the rear door, so no real security there.

The loom guards are steel plates that go around the loom and fit in the aforementioned gap.

If you Google it you can find the models and years affected, mine's a 56 plate and was listed so the mods been done.

Hope that this is of use.

Cheers,
Lofty

Anyone wanting a Connect, have a good nosey around the transit forum. priceless info on there about the subject.
I have had mine 2 years, had it remapped and it works wonders, but 12 seconds 0-60 out of the 70PS, erm....no, you will have to pull the engine out to get weight down and then shove it downhill, a bloody steep one.

Cheers..........Howard
