Just got off the phone to elecsa and apparently after December 31 2011 you will need an nvq level 3 or equivalent to register on any part p scheme. Has anyone got any ideas what the equivalents might be ?
Think this is going to effect alot of people

can't see the scam providers killing the goose. they'll lose thousands of punters (sorry, members)

the part P scanms will now start to oiffer NVQ assessors, and it will be a cost that they will add on. So for example, im joe bloggs and i want to be registered for part P. So elecsa come along and say well you need NVQ3, but dont worry, f you give us 3 examples of work, then we can use that as NVQ evidence, and for the cost of an extra £500, you will have an NVQ in domestic electrics.

Yeah, ....And probably along the lines of NABIT's own version of 2391-10 that can't be failed. One things for sure they aren't going to give up the Golden Goose, just because of a mere simple rule change!! They will only be seeing another opportunity to scam there present and future members...

Whenever a new bill is anounced.....its just a case of looking for the inbuilt loophole thats sure to be here someware ...........

They really haven't thought this through.
All I can see this doing, is driving more and more installation work underground. Perfectly capable qualified and competent electricians, who don't hold an NVQ and won't be able to get on a scheme, will just do the work and not bother with Part P in any form.
Meanwhile kitchen fitters with just the 17th can be a QS just because they joined by a certain date!!
Hopefully the membership numbers will sink so low that this Part Poo rubbish will be scrapped.

Some of the work we come across by these 6 week wonders is just appalling and its a wonder how some of it hasn`t fired or given someone a right old belt.....nearly every day we are treated to some snaps of poo on here and i don`t think for a minuite its just diy joe stuff....some folk are taking money for this crap...and depriving proper electricians of the work who after all have bothered to learn there disipline in the proper manner.........

Hi All

After spending all weekend finding out more information regarding Part P changes im still no further forward on a decision i have to make by tomorrow. I have a level 2/3 2330 certificate, 17th Edition and a level 1 in Renewable Energies Certificate. Last week I had 2 employers call me saying they have a jobs available but asked me if was Part P, I said no. so they couldn't offer me a job. I am told to install PV on domestic roof tops you have to be Part P, that's according to City & Guilds.

I have just recently been offered a small grant through my local authority to pay towards a Part P course. The Part P provider did have a course starting Nov 8th (5 days) but its now been cancelled and the next course they are holding will be in Jan 2012.

Im asking all of you for your honest oppinions and advice wether or not I should go ahead and book myself on the Part P course cause after reading lots of negative threads all over the web about Part P and the changes I could really do with all your help?

Many Thanks

Is there such thing as a Part P course?

There is approved document Part P Electrical safety in Domestic Buildings
There is C&G 2393 course Guide to the Building control regs
There is the EAL Domestic Installers course.
There is 2372 PV installers course (only for level 3 qualified electricians)
There is a NVQ 3 electrical installation course

I'm sure somebody will be able provide light on the subject
