Hi from Bristol, UK - my name is James. I got my nvq level 3 in October and I'm looking for work as an electrician's mate to get some time on the tools under my belt. Does anyone have any recommendations for agencies to contact or any other tips to help me get some experience? TIA

Bump :)

So I was offered voluntary redundancy from my old job last month (I was a project manager for a share registrar - sounds interesting but I was a bit of a cog in the capitalist machine and I didn't find it vary rewarding). The training centre isn't open yet so I haven't progressed past my Level 3 yet. I've got my redundancy money, though, so I'm picking up a van on Friday (14 plate Corsa van, 55K, FSH) and I'm looking for a MFT. I've done a few small jobs for people (mainly replacing/upgrading socket outlets and light fittings) and I'm looking to become properly self-employed. I'd love to hear any advice/cautionary tales/funny stories that any of you have relating to starting out on your own.

Cheers!

Did you manage to get some experience in the end then?

Hi DPG, yes some. I've got a mate who is a spark so I've been out with him on a first fix and a second fix. During lockdown he switched to reactive so he was just doing callouts. Now that things are easing he is filling his book again with domestic jobs so I'll get out with him again soon hopefully

Nice one, good to hear.
