New wagobox-XL........

Could come in handy when you find a nest of wiring at a junction box.

I am cynical Lee, what is the need for placing these connectors in their own compartments aside from neatness which you only see when you access it. Mind you they are cheap

I get what you mean but that's what the manufacture says we need to do to make it maintenance free....a ain't got a scooby doo why though.

Actually that is just what I need for a lighting box job with three lutron controls, oh hang on that wont work as the box has to have 20mm holes drilled to admit the lutron controls. Damn so close.

I think that enclosure will certainly have its uses. Much better than the annoyingly fiddly normal sized Wago boxes. I shall be buying half a dozen for the odd occasion here and there.

That's exactly the same in many respects as keeping the inside of a CU neat. Obviously keeping the inside of a CU neat usually helps for testing etc in the future. If you were looking for a fault in that wago XL, it is much nicer to see what's going where with the cables neatly compartmented. Yes I did invent that last word (I think!)

I do like the half width and the clear cased lever Wagos. A lot. A definite improvement!

I think it's a better concept than the small Wagobox in that you don't have to aim the cables directly at the terminals. You can snake from one side to the other to get some flexibility, avoid tension on the terminals, manoeuvre things into place better and leave service loops. I will probably get a few for interest's sake but seeing as I only normally get tools out to work pyro or steel conduit, I don't often use any sort of plastic junction box.

On the rare occasions my work isn't metalclad, I wire my junction boxes continental style which I find much more versatile and easier to maintain. They don't incorporate cable clamps as they are usually used with conduited cables, but one can easily fit glands through the knockouts for FP etc. You don't get a natty MF logo but you do get to see Wagos in their natural habitat. The "natty" MF logo is nothing more than sales tactic, what realistically is the difference between the enclosures you demonstrate than the Wago ones, none.

Do you do alot with lutron controls? How di you find them?

Well its just a glorified switch as I reminded my trainee when introducing them. The client was wanting a dali control system for an art studio and I suggested that may be slightly over specced for dimming and switching lights.
I found their tech. dept. very good delivery very poor (apparently unusual for lutron) However the wiring and settting up when we did get them was pretty straightforward and they did work well. We used the pico remote on the RMK-5T-DV-B, very straight forward the trainee once shown could wire them no problem. The response of the control is "lazy" i.e. not immediate so can be disconcerting when using the remote and incline you to press a few times. However just press once and wait. If the remote units are close it can be problematic programming separate controllers. Apart from that absolutely easy install and function great.

As I am a bit unusual I counted up the connections and lost count at 500 separate connections over 24 lights! doing the lutron controllers and supplies and interconnections of the panels. Ignore this.

Wiska boxes are my current favourite for this type of job. I'll definitely be getting some large wagoboxes though.

For multiple cables I'll normally use a standard adaptable box and drill/fit as many 20mm nylon dome top glands as needed for strain relief . Generally use the Ideal connectors rather than Wago as I like the idea of the 2,3 and 4 port variants all being rated at 32 amps. Of course that's neither here nor there for lighting.

These look ideal for addressing cowboy lighting wiring. Ever come across a mass of cables hidden under insulation in a loft? Last surveillance visit I had I asked the inspector about such situations but he said you shouldn't be correcting other electricians wiring... That said, replacing a host of choc block etc with wagos and putting it all in one of these boxes would seem to be an ideal solution...
