Hi Guys,

I am new to the forum and am after some advice. (I hope I'm posting in right section)

i I have completed my C&G level 2 2365 (2014) and my EAL level 3 electrical instillations course (2015)
and I am now looking to complete my NVQ3 to get my JIB gold card.

however, I have been told I can't apply for my NVQ3 until I sit my 17th edition. Does anyone know if this is true? I am assuming it's not as I have only just finished my levels 2&3 and would of been taught to the 17th edition regulations anyway.
lastly, I'm hearing now you must have min 5 years experience on site before applying for the NVQ3, is this right?

thanks a lot for my help received

It doesn't sound right to me.

There is an argument that you're qualified to the 17th as you gained your Installation Course using these regs, however you will still need to gain the 17th Edition regulations separately.

NVQ sounds BS to me as people do their NVQ whilst they are at college undertaking their knowledge based units, so I'd look into this further.

I know AM2 and I&T you need NVQ 3 qualifications before you can sit them (well that's what I was told) and once these are achieved you can apply for a JIB card (2-5 years post experienced are needed for the approved status from memory).

Well technically you can apply for a JIB card with what you've got (as far as I know), but I'd wait till you have AM2 & I&T and get the big boys card!

It depends on the college or training centre. My local college wouldn't let anyone enrol on the NVQ3 without first completing the technical certificate, but there was a guy on my course who enrolled at another college and got the two completed at the same time. Remote providers such as XS Training may have more stringent entry requirements because you don't need site visits.
