Hi All,

My company is involved in the commercial laundry equipment sector (supply of), but 3rd party companies actually install the services.

Many machines are installed in nursing homes and the like. Can you advise if a nursing home is classed as a domestic premises (with a view to Part P), and by running a new circuit in the laundry room then this would be notifiable to building control ?

Also, is a hotel classed as domestic ?

Thanks
Steve

Nursing homes and hotels are regarded as commercial and not domestic as they are a business so no need to notify under Part P however, there insurance company MAY want an NIC cert.

Hi Jason - what specifically do you mean by an NIC certificate ? Is this something on top of the usual Elec Installation Certificate ?

Is that same for special needs, school living accomodation. No notification?

Yes as they are a commercial property, not a residential dwelling.

Sorry they MAY require an NICEIC or ECA installation certificate.

Elecsa are owned by the ECA, but are not part of it.

If you are thinking of membership with the ECA, the rules are a little different and will cost you, as well as Elecsa's fees.

Are you sure Jason?
Part P covers dwellings, and I would of thought a nursing home would be a dwelling by the fact that people live there.
I must admit I am finding it dificult to find out so until I do I am treating nursing homes as dwellings just in case.

Hi Andy,

I dont disagree with you and i understand exactly where you are coming from but i think as its a business, it would be classed as commercial.

I reckon you are better off contacting your scheme provider and getting their opinion?

hi there
worked in a nursing home on maintenance they come under the jurisdiction of the local health and local council authorities so council may be dwellings and other commercial. I would treat them as dwellings for safety but contact the local health authority for guidance

sorry cant advise anymore on that
