I have worked on a couple of jobs where back-up generators have been a requirement from the fire strategy document to power fire fighting lifts, smoke extract systems and sprinkler pumps. What particular requirements are you trying to find out?

Is this a Standby Set, or a Base Load set up? Things to consider:
Fuel Storage, tank bund needs to be sized so that it can contain all of the fuel in the storage tank, should there be a leak.

Signage, ensure all signage is up to standard.

H&S ensure you have the require First aid equipment.
Fire extinguishers, escape routes clearly marked.
Permit to work requirements, Adequate locks on doors etc, Only Authorised staff are allowed to enter unescorted.

Sighting of exhaust system, ease of access to building.

I assume it’s a permanently installed generator for back up.
Unless of course, he’s talking about a power station.

Main thing you need to know, is that there should be a change over switch to disconnect the grid when it fires up.
