Plastic conduit bending springs

Done more Plastic conduit jobs than I like to remember, I always tie a length of heavy gauge rope or some single cable to the end, never had any deformation of the spring, well hardly ever only when some Muppet gets the spring stuck due to a sharp bend.

I feed a bit of 1.5 single through the spring so when you pull it back it's not stretching it.

a bit of washing upliquid helps. keep head out of way when pulling spring out.

Depends on the conduit as well. Had some HG plastic from a local supplier we don't often use that split the first bend I did, wrecking the spring. Trip back to wholesaler to collect another spring, back on site first bend and the sod split again. Took the whole lot back to the wholesaler and replaced with gear from another supplier. No further problems but well over an hour wasted.

And on the matter of 20mm white conduit, don't buy screwfix version the walls are to thin internally and the pipe kinks when bending.

Yes this is what I am sure someone told me a good time ago (it may of been Pete) I said this to my mate at work said was rubbish everyone I've seen have had it ties on to the loop only.

Thanks for that Tel I forgotten about that one just lube the spring slightly helps it from rusting.

As the others said, but the main thing to remember, is just don't make the bend too sharp. That will always kill springs

I have had the same bit of 1.0 T&E tied to mine for probably the last 20 years. Also handy to know where you want the spring placed in the tube by measuring then bending your wire/cable to the top of the tube.

When I got my first spring recently, I remembered reading that from a member on the forum so down the middle and tied on the loop with a 2.5 CPC. Seems like a better way to me but without scientific reviews! there will be no proof one way or t'other!
