Hi Guys,

I thought that the best place for this would be The Arms so here goes.

I have been given the chance to tender for a new build development but it has been a long time since I have priced one of these, do any of you guys use any sort of formula ie £? per socket and £x per light etc or do you just estimate time and materials.

I know that these jobs can be won or lost by a few quid so any input would be appreciated as it is a large builder and a lot of work.

Thanks.........................

Time and materials plus a bit mate ! Works for me but you will still have someone undercut you but is rough and wearing a ten gallon hat !!!!

Do you have a full spec to price against or is is open to interpretation? If its the latter make sure you stipulate white finish on all accessories!

Yes we have a full spec including everything, as mentioned above its for a national builder so its more the labour cost per point as a formula to win the work that I am wondering about............without cutting my throat of course

The way I used to price new builds, was to allow 1 hour of labour for every point and tally up the materials for each point.

don't forget the builder may make you wait for payments which could incur bank charges, otherwise the best formula is the time it takes to 1st fix and also second fix and then finals and testing at your rate, plus all materials at the cheapest you could find them and add a percentage, if the contract is very large and you are doing the work and really want the Job, then as low as just 10%, however if your employing people add 15%, JMO

Consider being cocked about by trades begging you to show up before its ready just to install temp electrics because they can't be arsed to buy their own site lights etc!!
