my company want me to install and test lighting and run circuits in DB boards, can i install and test if i am only 17th edition NOT 2330 or 2391. i need to fill in the certificates but i am not signing them, the person signing them is in my office not on site. if someone can tell me i can legally do this it would be a great help. i have never been taught to install or test.

If you are competent to test then that's all that is required. I test and complete NIC certs which the boss of my company then signs. It is perfectly above board.

so if i install and test if anything happens am i personnally liable? i just want to make sure i'm not being forced to do work i'm not meant to, thanks for your reply though,is the person that signs them off meant to be 2391? or where does that come in?

The person who signs the cert is legally responsible as far as I know. 2391 is a test and inspection qualification. You do not necessarily need it but my view is that I want to get 2391 as I want to be able to personally join NIC for example and sign off my own certs.

It Is Your Companys Duty Holder/qaulifying Supervisors Responsibility To Review The Readings You Submit To Him Before Signing The Cert.

ok, thanks for your help it's such a grey area and in the world of people sueing at everything i just want to make sure. it's so complicated now!

What about the 3 signature certificate, then you could only sign as the installer?? and get he necessary others to sign as designer and inspector?

the certificate i have has only one place to sign, i am the installer and designer and inspector as no one has visited site or will visit site. the work has not been quoted properly factoring in the existing circuits and if new MCB's are required. no existing certfificates have been seen to prove the circuits have ever been tested in the commercial premisis so you could spur of off a circuit that could be defective.

hi
i would go and have a quick chat with who ever pays your wages,;)

If all you're doing is filling in numbers and it's someone else claiming to be responsible for them and signing the form you have nothing to be concerned about except that if you have an aptitude for testing you could be missing out on something
