Prysmian Cable In a Box cr!p

Anybody successfully managed to use a box of Prysmian T&E boxed cable? They don't tape the end of the cable to the outside of the box so you have to fish for it which usually ends up destroying the box. Anybody know how to do it?

I hate the stuff.....I convinced my wholesalers to stock Doncaster.

I concur, the Prysmian boxes are sh1te! I picked up a cable reel holder so I can just take them out of the box and slap them on the stand. Much better.

A good cable stand is a godsend, especially with singles. Any time I've got cables in a box, the box gets binned first.

It's one of those things you keep putting off buying. Then when you bite the bullet & buy one, wonder how you managed without it.

i hate prysmian cable. when cold it's like trying to pull teeth.

Odd, I've always found prysmian to be better than most other manufacturers for T&E and singles.
If you don't like the boxed reels then take it out of the box or ask your wholesaler to get the unboxed reels.

No problem with the stuff myself. Wouldn't bother with the box, just put the drum between your feet and start stripping, or give it the old bobby dazzler kick out when it's on the floor.

I tend to like the Prysmian cable as well always straightens out for surface clipping and strips easily, not sure if this was formerly Pirelli or BICC ?

I must be easy to please - cause I thought it was normally frustrating rather than specially so
PS : that was prime Prysmian that I set fire to yesterday, so at least its brave

I prefer Prysmian as well. It used to be Pirelli which came in the same useless boxes!

Prysmian is my cable of choice, the first thing i do it get it out of the box and throw that away, but i find it by far, the easiest to strip and work with compared to the other carp sold by the wholesalers round here.

Best £20 I've ever spent!
And 5 free crocodile clips.. no idea what they're for but they're there if an emergency for them comes up

years ago, i made my own from 20mm and 25mm steel conduit with a few bends and a couple of 90 deg. conduit boxes . cost about a fiver.

Seen one of these made. Thought it was a piece of engineering genius.

However the 5 hours I would have spent building one probably out weighs the £15 saved

By once I mean one piece of conduit in college
Have no conduit bender or dies
Maybe a project for another day.
I do love a good home made problem solver.

Not sure if I'd be more annoyed with the innconvience of the most important bit being stolen or that some theiving little toerag thought I'd be acceptable to take something that isn't theirs.

It's one of the joys of working on a big site with other trades mate, you have to have eyes in your butt.
If you want to keep your tools, keep your eyes open & never lend them out.

The croc clips are to hold the cables on the reels you aren't pulling from at the time.

Holding the reels, so that if you only need one cable but have five on the stand, croc clip the other four so they don't move when you pull the one you need

I remember not so long ago the drums of cable used to be made from thick sturdy cardboard now its thin corrugated flimsy cardboard. By the way Doncaster Cables used to be owed by CEF I think.

If your stuck Just stick a 3ft length of 20mm conduit in the vice on the bender and then the drums on that , I have done that in the past , bit heavy lugging a bender round though but it was already on site anyway....
