Easy one for ya, when carrying out an IR test on a radiel such as a cooker feed. Do you normally pull the hob and disconnect the cable and then test IR or would connecting Live & Neutral together and testing to earth ok?

Cheers

I would disconnect the cooker from the connection outlet (if one present) and test away. If the lead is just hanging out of the switch then disconnect from there or simply turn it off.

I see what your both saying there guys but the cooker hob is a integral one cut into the work top. So without pulling the oven first and then getting to the hob connections (normally taking the hob out) in unable to disconnect easily. If i turn the switch off and test dont i have to then test the 6mm that feeds the hob?

Many Thanks

you could test through the switch and upto the hoband oven l-e and n-e these should be clear anyway, you may get l-n also if there is no digi clock on the oven try 250v 1st

The oven is on its own 2.5mm radiel that is isolated via a plug top so that one is ok i can just unplug the oven and test away. Would testing the hob circuit harm the hob if i dont disconnect it? Its a touch button with no actual buttons just those that you put your finger on to turn on and off etc.

Just isolate at the cooker isolator and test.

Hobs with touch sensitive buttons will give a false reading, and then probably not work again if you fire 500V at it!

Ok so testing upto the isolator is acceptable and the 6mm to the hob is ok?

Thanks again
