Rebating a consumer unit in a single skin wall

Hi Guys need to do a board change for a customer old fuse board is in a cornor of the kitchen, only way in is by going through the kitchen cupboard worst place `I have ever seen a fuse box. Want to mount the new 1 on the dinning room wall drill through from were old board is can I chase the single skin wall out and plaster in the back part of a mk board and then attach the cover after all the work is finished the wall is made of breaze block there will be no fire risk and all ip ratings will be fine will this be fine if not any ideas client doesnt want to see a fuse box on the wall and doesnt want to box it in after thanks

You need to select a CU that has been designed for that. I have installed similar and when done properly the cover fits over nicely. I think the one i used was a MEM, but have a look around cos you are going to need a really nice looking one if there is such a thing

You could use a 'skeleton' Board.

Basicly this is a fuseboard designed to be chased into walls.

You need to make sure the wall is thick enough to accept a recessed DB and the strength of the wall is not comprimised by doing so.

As Lenny has pointed out, you could compromise the structural integrity of the wall and the building by doing this. Have you confirmed it's not a supporting wall? You may have to stick a lintel in?

if the house is less than 40 years old, it will probably collapse without fitting a lintel.
