Hello guys, hope someone can help me with this.

i was carrying out a small job on a ring main (re-fix a socket to a wall nothing major), and noticed that the ring was being supplied from more than one circuit breaker a long with the other ring main in the flat. Obviously i rectified the job as anybody would. along with this there are many other issues in the flats. the company i carry out the work for have asked me to write a letter listing my findings from what i have seen so far so they can pass this on to the owner.

the problem im having is finding something rock solid from the regs book to put in my letter with regards to the circuit being supplied from two circuit breakers, the best ive found is 314.1 (vi) "prevent the indirect energizing of a circuit intended to be isolated"

Ive looked in capter 41 and capter 53 and havent found anything
Have i missed something or can someone point me in a better direction

What testing have you carried out?

carried out a full ring test on both circuits after finding the problem. i wasn't there to test the whole installation so didnt investigate any other circuits although they were just lighting and heaters on radial circuits. can you help in locating something i can put in the letter apart from what i quoted in my first post

537.2.1 and 537.2.2

If he’s doing electrical work he should have his own regs book and know how to use it. But it’s easier to ask here and some muppet will give him the reg number(s).

I don't think that any of the guys who offered advice are muppets! As you can see I do have a regs book. I knew I had overlooked something so asking advice from my peers! If you have nothing constructive to say best keep your fingers of the keyboard next time. And not waste anyone's time having to read your rubbish.

I note that you've said you carried out 'Ring Tests', wonder how you rectified the fault. I've been told by another electrician, that when carrying out work for a local council, and discovering a fault on a Ring Final, he was told (by the council) to isolate that part of the ring with fault and then convert the ring final into two radials. The council did not want the 'extra' work of replacing the faulty cable. Not the case here?

The actual fault was in the DB, who ever had worked in the DB last had mixed the legs in two different ring circuits, it was a matter of identifying the correct cables for each ring then re-terminating them. It was a private property.

Had a installation where whoever connected the CU had the radial feed to the imm/heater and one leg of the ring connected on the 32amp mcb and the other part of the ring connected to the 16amp mcb meant for the imm/heater, could find why the ring wasnt isolated when i turned off the 32amp mcb for a while lol
