I just moved into rented accommodation and found this (see pic) under my sink. When I was last in the electrical business 30 or so years ago it would have been classed as a horror show waiting to happen, thoughts?

It’s very much the way things are done these days..
I think it’s because the standard of plumbers is so much better...
Hmmm

there's a few houses in Winsford built in '70s with CU's under the kitchen sinks, as built.

sockets anywhere can be subject to water from a leak . a leak above a ceiling can run along the board and then travel down conduit or capping several feet away. you pay your plumber, you take the chance.

Sockets under sinks and under bath tubs for pumps are very common.
If the trap under the sink does leak and water does pour all over the socket just don’t touch it....

I found it when there was a leak from the dish washer feed, the connector was cross threaded. The shelf was collecting water & emptying it resulted in me noticing the arrangement. Thanks for answering me guys & have a great day!

I had a situation where a Combi boiler pressure relief valve was continually opening because the top up ball valve hadn’t been closed fully.
The Combi boiler was on the first floor and exited through the wall above a single story Cafe.
The water saturated the wall then found it’s way down a cable chase into a socket in the Cafe.
Dual RCD board, RCD tripped taking out half the circuits.

Good question and 1 that I don’t know the answer to..
I didn’t do any electrical work on that job, I only supplied pre-assembled lighting boards and programming..
It was a job full of many departures, fortunately it wasn’t my name on any of the test certs..

I bet there wasn’t.
