I've just received a letter to say I need a new electricity meter. A smart meter is being offered. I have solar PV with an Immersun diverting excess energy to my water tank, and towel radiators when the water is hot. Hence, my export is comparatively low.

My question is, can the deemed export arrangement I have be changed to a metered export under my current FiT agreement if I have a smart meter installed?

If the meter is configured to measure export (it doesn't have to be) and the supplier you have your FiT contract with registers the export MPAN (they don't have to) then you would just be paid the metered value and lose the 50% deeming.

You don't have to accept a SmartMeter.

Thanks Ted,

Yes I realise I don't have to accept the smart meter.

Another concern I have, regardless of whether I choose Smart or traditional, is that the supplying company is Siemens. I don't want to end up with a meter which is incorrectly configured to total up export and import as has happened with their S2AS model in many cases.
