Somewhere I have a cheap Kewtech socket tester which is handy for a simple 'probably OK' check and to verify power is on.

But they will pass a really high R2 value which is not good, so recently when I saw the likes of the Martindale EZ165, or Socket & See SOK34, offering some sort of real test on earth impedance it seems ideal for simple test cases.

Anyone used one to say how reliable/usable/simple they are in practice?

i have a fluke that's on recall and a £7.95 thing from China. the latter also indicates volts on LCD screen. also has a RCD test button. cheap as chips and does same thing. if it breaks, buy another.

I have one the Martindale testers, it was 'free' on a course. It's handy as a rough guide - I was an SNG truck operator at the time, we were given them so we could do a quick check before plugging in to shore power.

The original one I had was subject to a recall, I now have v2!
