Hi everyone first time poster, Just looking for a few pointers.
I am an employed electrician at the moment but am so fed up with the work i.e Local authority occupied rewires, kitchens, upgrades I would like to work for myself.
I take home approx £400 per week but as this is the only company I have worked for (13 Years) I have nothing to compare to is this good bad the going rate?.
Its not about trying to earn extra money I just really hate the work all rushing to get the job done regardless of quality and really do not want to work like this for the rest of my life.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

In reality count yourself lucky a lot of guys on here are looking for work and have the experience, however if you want to give it a go. Google business link and go on the free course that covers everything from tax to marketing and promoting your business.

Then work out if you have the money to tide you over while you build up your business.

Best of luck

Chris

At the mo i would stay where you are the set up costs ,tools test kits van books regestration etc ,and all the extra hours you do ,not a 40 hour week more like 80 just a thought and with alot of sparks being out of work and the reccession still going on may be an idea to while to wait

Yes I know that I am lucky to have work, I have been thinking about it for well over a year now, I think its more to do with the type of work than anything else I really do hate it but appreciate that I have work at all.
A lot of the guys at work go self employed then continue to work on the contracts on price so maybe that might be a option for me.
I have my own test kit , drills , chasers etc but know that the costs don't stop there.

Why not do a bit of part time work and build up a reputation then you have the best of both worlds.
