Tips for sizing cables

Hi guys , bit off a stupid question but you guys n girls got any tips for sizing cables when doing periodics. sometimes look in fuse board and have too look a few times to work out wat mm they are thanks

I have some singles I carry around already labelled up, some with thermosetting and some with thermoplastic, as the thickness can be confusing.

If all else fails, just put 4mm.

Stick cut offs of all the sizes on a piece of card.

Crimp some ring crimps on the different sizes of cable and put them on a handy key ring in size order.

Just get the electronic verniers out and measure ...... quick (pi r[SUP]2[/SUP])by no strands calc and you’re sorted!

Are all you people being serious here?? You all need a card or a ring of sample different sized cables in order to distinguish what size a cable may be in a CU/DB??

The majority of people I guess just look at the cables and know the sizes. I think there is quite a visible difference between most cables, especially T&E.

Surely everyone knows it's 1/1.5 mm for lights, 2.5 for sockets, 6 for cookers, 10 for showers and 4 for just about every commercial/light industrial application.
