what does 'single pole' mean?

i have come cross this word a lot, like 'single pole switch', but i dont think i have understood it clearly. i assume ' single pole' means one line of live or neutral, but still not sure, can anyone give me a good explaination?

A single pole switch only switches one line...LINE... therefore the LIVE(LINE) connection MUST be on the LIVE phase

Double pole will switch both line and neutral at the same time

If your flush you can splash out for a double pole dance...although a single pole dance is quite nice
