Hi,

I thought I knew a little about amps, volts and watts, but I don't! So I'm hoping someone can help.

I need to hire sockets for an exhibition and I'm stumped with what I need. The options are a 500w socket, a 1kw or a 3kw. I will be plugging in 4 floor lamps, a small projector and a laptop. I've been advised that an extension lead plugged into a 500w switch socket will be fine.

Could someone tell me if that right?

Thanks.

Hi, the building has power already and exhibitors each have a stand. The organisers will install which ever switch socket I request to my stand.
Hope that makes sense.

okay you need to know the wattage of your items to do this have a look at the bulbs it should say on them. the laptop and projector proberly wont to you will need to know the voltege and the current drawn this info should be on the bottom of them the the laptop has a battery so will be a dc voltagepossibly 20v but you will need to cheeck and could you then post the info back on here. i would imagine the 500w is fine but you may need a 1 k depending on your lamps and projector ect.

Exhibitor - I know exactly what you mean and I understand exhibitions! You need to tell me what rating the lamps are, and the projector for me to be sure, but what you probably need to order is a 500w, but if the lamps are large then you might need 1kw. Make sure it's delivered as a 13a socket, not a 16A or you'll be stuffed to plug an extension in!

OK, so the laptop - Built in, 63.5-watt-hour battery. A 45w or 60w charger (i'm not sure off the top of my head). The projector - 100-240v. The plug says 3A/250v. The bulbs can be small if needs be. I'm assuming the plugs are 13 amp.
Thanks

if you are not using any form of heating, request a 1kW supply socket. that should be more than adequate.

I've been involved in organising a few shows at the NEC, all exhibitors had to supply a plug in RCD (which I tested) as if a supply was tripped, the site sparkys would charge the organisers (us) for each reset! don't know if it's still the same.
