Discuss Wiring similation program to learn ? in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

Suggest you get hold of these:

One important thing to understand is that the "IET Wiring Regulations" are not statutory therefore have no standing under law, they are a recommended standard only.

And try to get hold of a copy of "Unite the Union" "The Electricians Guide to Inspection and testing" better than anything offered by IET etc:

The Practical Guide by Kitcher posted above is based on the C&G course with exam samples questions and answers so could be ideal.

I think the OP is looking for some graphical software for PC or whatever where you can place batterys, switches, lights etc, connect up with drawn lines and the light will change state when the switches are operated on screen.
You could also virtually take volt and amp readings at any point on the drawn circuit.

I seem to remember using something at uni 20 years ago, but my memory escapes me…

Very likely had “…..SIM….” In the title somewhere.

Look on educational resources for physics software… I’ll ask my kids, but none of them took physics.

LS, Multisim may be the one you are thinking of.

OP - there are quite a few free circuit simulators on the web, I'd have a look and see what you find suits you best. They are usually biased towards electronic applications, but you will still be able to place switches and loads, and use virtual voltmeter and ammeters.

Let us know how you get on.

I've tried looking for them. But can't seem to find any. Maybe I'm searching it wrong as I'm fairly new to this. I need 1 that show the wires ie live, neutral, earth

Can you please direct me to 1 or 2 please ?

There is LTsplice, but this is an electronic circuit simulator, if this is what you are after.....

I don't know of any which are intended for specifically what you are asking. But basic circuits such as switching, lamps, etc. can be created.

As one of our venerable members on here would say "Its only wires and stuff" domestic circuits are very basic and easy to follow in any book, look at the Unite site guide, lots of diagram's and colour coded.

I don't mind the wires, it's the rest of the stuff that's tricky :)

Yeah this is what I need.
Which do you recommend ?
This might be the sort of thing, though I don't know how 'complete' it is. I'm not specifically recommending it as I have no experience of it, or knowledge of its security or privacy features. It does seem to have been created with the right intentions.
