whats the rcd/rcbo for ? if needed you could put a different brand in an adjacent plastic enclosure, rolec do type a rcbos for around £20 you might have to pay delivery but will be available from most wholesalers. they do 20 and 40 amp versions of the rcbo possibly other rated versions if you look

It's for a garage circuit with an EV point taken from the garage board, it's already in place but an EICR identified the AC type RCD isn't suitable. The board in the house is Wylex, put in about 2 years ago, so the simplest thing would be to have a suitable Wylex device to put in there.

Only the rcd in the charging unit requires to be either a type A or type B rcd.
The supply to the EV charger does not necessarily require rcd protection depending upon the installation method of the cable supplying it and whether fault protection is required by an rcd
You also should not have a type AC rcd upstream of a type A or type B so is that what the issue is?

Cheers guys, had a glance at rolec, I think the answer is to modify the installation to take the supply to the EV point off the RCD.

Fortunately for me the supply comes from the main DB to the garage DB is SWA, so I can modify the garage DB to have the other circuits in it on an RCD there. I personally prefer to have it RCD'd from the main board to have the cable run on an RCD too (regardless of it being a requirement or not, original installer was clearly like-minded), but changing that seems to be the only reasonable option here.

A bit disappointed at the difficulty obtaining Type A rcds/rcbos. Even my accessor last time my scam paid a visit made it a point to say we should be looking for Type A due to the type of loads that are commonplace these days, but I can't install what I can't get hold of!

P.S. Thanks Wilko but I'm pretty sure the B type there refers to the mcb (which also makes searching for a B type rcd/rcbo a huge pain as there's a ton of unwanted results).

Hi - agree, these RCBO are type A RCD with a type B or C mcb.
