I'm looking at splashing out in the 1730 Anyone know who sells them at the best price?

Il also be selling my 1553 if anyone's interested its in immaculate conditions till well looked after and about 9 months calibration left

I find mine gives me some unrealistic readings when looping on no trip! Even though it's calibrated every year!

Of course it does, that's why low current/no trip loop tests should not be used unless absoloutely necessary.

Yes, well no trip has to be used nearly all the time in domestic.
It's obviously not faulty it was only calibrated About two months back from calibration centre, and every year before that by onsite calibration, he'd always say how it held its calibration so well.
I don't suspect it's faulty but does seem to give me high loop tests occasionally on no trip.
Jus decided i would like a new one anyway. Like the idea of the two test no trip function

Forgive my ignorance but why would being in a domestic install make it necessary?
It's only ring final circuits where you can't realistically use the alternative method of carrying out the test which removes the RCD from the test circuit.

I have a megger 1710 which i use mainly for testing domestic properties. The new leads you will either love or hate personally i think the croc clips are the best ive used and the tips work well. Just make sure you dont loose them! The display is very nice and displays the results clearly. I use the 3 lead no trip as opposed to 2 because i find it give you more realistic results. It gave me some very strange readings once but after the firmware update and a calibration it works fine. Just done forget to cary some AAs with you and buy decent batteries and the cheap ones will mess you about on IR tests.

nothing wrong with no trip testing so theres no need to dismantle a fuseboard. The reading are not majorly different.

the megger 1700 series was renowned for terrible readins on no-trip setting but this was aparently fixed in a firmware update released in 2013 last i heard

As an aside, do you have the same problem as I seem to have when typing a reply, with key stokes not being recognised, or was that just a finger problem? Can't cut & paste or insert smiley faces either.

My 1730's work fine. Is it being kept in the van when its cold outside? The 1730 also come with rechargeable batteries so no need to carry spare batteries.

fingers hitting wrong keys on tapatalk, not helped by the fact i was nodding off sat in chair and just woke up

Yes there is, it does not use higher current and so is far less likely to give an accurate result or identify a poor connection.
There's no need to dismantle the board using the alternative method, and with 2 people it is a quicker method of testing.

Can't quite follow you instructions, but is it RCD & mcb both off. Live & cpc linked at furthest point on circuit, L1 on tester on supply side of RCD & L2 on load side of mcb?
