Hi guys,

I've never done any electrical work before and need some advice. I need to run a new kitchen ring, please could you take a look at the drawing I have attached and tell me if I am on the right track? I will be getting a qualified sparky to connect to mains and test but want to run the wires and fit sockets/fuses/switches myself to keep costs down.

Thanks guys!

Welcome to the forum :).

It would be best to get your electrician in to assess how you need to run your cabling, the size you need to run and whether you need any dedicated circuits, they will also assess your existing Earthing and Bonding to ensure your installation is safe and whether RCD protection is available existing.

A few pointers that stand out is your oven will more than likely need a dedicated supply and not taken of the ring, I also tend to put the fridge on its own earth leakage monitored circuit to limit loss of stock due to problems on other circuits tripping a rcd that covers several circuits.

Your electrician will also express cable sizes required and these will be denoted by installation methods, the old hat rule of thumb method to size cables can put you are risk of fire and/or shock if you were to make assumptions.

yes Best talk to the electrician who doing the testing ETC he will tell you what work you can do to help him , it may be that it will be just chasing out walls and fitting back boxes , if you run in the cables he will need to see were they run and make sure they have not been installed correctly , as other as said the installation requires designing first by an electrican or compertant person

On that diagram I would question the oven and microwave supplies being via the ring circuit, and also there appears to be very few general use sockets on the circuit.

Without further information the microwave and oven could possibly need their own dedicated circuits, this is common for ovens and not entirely unheard of for microwaves.

As mentioned above there are potential issues with the cable routes, cable sizes, protection installed and general installations methods which you need to consider

You can't expect a spark to just come and test & connect work that he hasn't done. He needs to design the circuit(s) himself. There are many considerations here, more so as you are proposing a ring.
