This is what my assessor has told me!
He states that the BS3036 does not meet the 0.4s disconnection times and cannot be used for any new work.
I do not have a BRB so cannot see the disconnection times for a 3036.
Surely he is wrong? He is suggesting that we have to change the 3036 if we want...
Hi,
This is probably the wrong forum but it seems busy, and someone might know the answer. I registered yesterday, and have set up an account successfully. If I login, the forum DIY Electrical Advice is shown with a padlock, and if I go into the forum there is no posting option available ? Most...
Hi everybody.
Much unclear this sponsor thing for the ECS trainee card is.
I have done all required for the ECS adult trainee card.
I have done and passed my H&S exam. I am currently on my last "second" year of my level 3 in electrical installations.
Having been around to a few construction...

Hi Guys
I saw the other day a Voltage Optimisation Company stating that you can connect and feed an inverter via an optimised circuit, are there any views on how this would be allowed under G83-2
Positive comments/statements about being a sparky and what you love about being a sparky!! ANYONE?! THINK! Encouragement and advice also welcome to the trainees of today who are interested and determined! Might provoke more people to ask questions that you want to answer. Surely you...
The EC appears to be clamped to the water pipe just before going outside to the spike. Was this ever standard? Its a TT with Ze of 36 ohms. Is it best practice to run a separate EC and water bod to MET. (no gas in house).
went to an office this week where there are 2 rcbo's nuisance tripping every now and then. apparently one does the floor sockets in the office and one does the wall sockets in the office, now as the office was full of staff working on their computers i could only go by what one member of staff...
Hello,
I have just moved into a new house, which will require a full rewire.
I am looking at relocating the main electrical consumer unit into the boiler room which houses the gas combi boiler.
Can anyone advise any regulations that would resrict this?
Thanks,
Callum

Hi chaps...
Been asked to add a light in an under-stairs cupboard.
A spur from the downstairs socket circuit runs through that cupboard to a double 13A outlet in the kitchen. I'd like to tap into that for the light, but under the regs I'd have to fuse it down first.
The thing is, the 2.5mm...
Similar to the two showers thread, sorry.
I have been asked to supply a sauna (4.5kW) and electric shower (7.5kw) lights and sockets (using an oil filled radiator) to an outside room.
The supply is TNS, 80A (presumed) and the existing split board has 3 RFC, 3 light circuits, 1 immersion heater...
Pricing up a job in a factory and have to wire in a 3 phase supply, just going to double check my cable sizing i calculate i need to use a 10m cable
Swa cable clipped direct on its own , 35m run feeding a unit needing a 3 phase 20amp supply am i right ? just seems a little on the heavy side ?
So we have been doing a bit of digging on the subject and it's apparent they are funded from company's in Germany so the fits are going out the country!! Surely this should not be allowed
For disconection times we have to hit 0.4 for up to 230v U0. 0.2 for 400-1000U0.
I always took this to mean what it says.
both single and 3 phase V to earth is 230, so we use the 0.4 disconection.
Taking my 17th update and got told that was a typo!!!!
So for 3 phase we are supposed to use...
I was doing a bunch of very dull office pat testing yesterday, 90% IT so hardly anything to do. It suddenly occured to me that as I could see everything bit of kit fully to be able to verify the visual condition, and I knew eveything was operable, if I just tested the via the plug on the end of...
This is something I have been racking my brain over for ages and its doing my head in!!
Please could someone explain why you are only allowed to have one unfused spur per socket on a RFC?
I'll explain a little why I'm confused.
A ring main is allowed as many sockets as you like on the...
My cleint has a small holiday lodge and wanting to remove hot water cylinder and night storage heaters and replace with instanious water heater and panel heaters. As he is only in lodge a day here and there.
The plan is to replace old fuse box with new 17th ed consumer unit. Which will include a...
Iv just been to look at a job in a cafe, the customer needs a cooker circuit and a radial adding the the installation, the 3 phase D-board is in the same room as where the two extra circuits will be.
All the circuits tht are already in this room, radial for boiler and radial sockets feeding...
