Hi there
I am getting someone in to change an outdoor switch and outdoor wall light (like for like).
The old switch and light was covered by a lean which has now been removed so everything will be fully exposed.
I've bought a new outdoor switch and lamp.
Would someone be able to explain to me...
Our electrician inexplicably wired outdoor floodlights attached to side of house over driveway as "always hot", no switch. We don't want them always on, nor timed and also not with motion sensors. We want to turn them on and off from a regular wall-mounted switch like normal lights. All the...
I see a lot more IP44 options, nominally OK for outdoor use (no special area, etc) but wondered if they are OK in practice?
Also if anyone has the good, the bad, and the ugly of related brands.
Hello gents I need your help plz.
Lets suppose we have 15 led lights bulbs on a 2 core cable. I chopped 5 of them coz it was too long for the job. Now 7 out of 10 work and the last 3 don't work. When I touch the two ends together the last 3 switches on and the first 7 turns off.
How can I make...
I have run out of viable space (that Mrs will let me use) to house my inverter and battery for when my solar arrives next month (GivEnergy). So have been looking at alternatives. Originally looked at stainless steel and GRP kiosks but that was going to cost me nearly £1500.
So now i am...

Hi all,
What is the most popular outdoor wall or spike lights you install? What manufacturers? Typically use Knightsbridge's outdoor range but am interested to see what everyone else is using.
Also, what wireless controls do you use when customer asks for this?
Thanks in advance
Hey guys,
looking for a bit of advise on the installation of an outside light.
I plan on chasing out the plasterboard and running a cable from a spare light switch in the kitchen through to the exterior (approx. 4.5m away).
The light I have seen is: LAP Weyburn Outdoor LED Floodlight Black...
Is it ok to control an outdoor double socket with a programmable switched timer - the type usually used for lighting? The sockets are for a pond pump and filter which use c 35w while the timer switch wd be mounted in a shed and on a 6a mcb. My sparky didn’t sound concerned - he basically said...
Hi
The ground floor of my house has two lighting circuits which are each protected by an MCB. One of those circuits is just indoor lights. The other circuit covers both indoor and outdoor lights. There is no RCD protection for either of these circuits.
The problem with the circuit that covers...
I have outdoor lights that are controlled by dusk sensor and then timer (for OFF) on the right of the picture. The switch to the left of the box powers off the entire fusbox therefore I cannot change that as I have other things I keep on). What do I need to buy (switch/plug?) to swap the old...

I currently have some 12v outdoor lights which have a plug with a built in transformer.
I would like these to turn on and off without having to go outside so ideally would like to have them on a timer but not sure of the best way to incorporate this while keeping it looking presentable...
I've been thinking of adding a couple of outdoor weatherproof sockets to the same wiring I used to connect my CCTV camera, this was previously just powering two outdoor lights which I have removed. The fuse is only 6Amp on that ring so I wouldn't be plugging anything too power intensive into it...
Hi all,
I am installing a custom sized (15ft X 17Ft) Aluminium pergola in my backyard on a concrete with tiles.
The Aluminium pergola and kitchen are powered from one of the outlet from the house.
Please note, the pergola has inbuilt lights and will be powered from one of the outlet from the...
Just received a Eufy CCTV floodlight camera (This one) which requires existing wiring. We have two outdoor lights on the side of our house with a cable running between them, my plan is to T off of this cable using a weatherproof junction box and cable glands.
My question is what type of cable...
Grateful for a kick in the right direction on the following: a telecomms engineer stated out that an outdoor metal cabinet (earthed & bonded) was an unsuitable enclosure for a network switch and patch panel to be installed into, as it was not IP rated.
As it happened, the size of the cabinet...
Hi, I am a basic DIY'er, with basic electrical skills, NB, I can change a plug/fuse, change a ceiling light fitting, change a socket face plate, install a ceiling fan, immersion heater, extractor fan, etc.

I would like to add a flood light camera and outdoor outlet to the front of my house where there is no existing wiring. I plan to get power from an outlet inside my garage and feed UF cable through a hole that I will drill above my garage door. The roof (eave) extends passed my garage door and...
This is the setup I am trying to put together. No idea what to buy in terms of parts. The bulbs will be low watt patio style incandescents.
I am in the UK and these will be for outside. Just want to make sure I don't electrocute myself.
The lights will be hanging - not levitating like in the...
