Hi All, just carried out an EICR on a rented property that has mains smoke detectors, there is no SPD fitted and as I understand any safety service should be protected by an SPD, what code would you give this.
Hi,
I was wondering if the wylex/Proteus SPD Isolators where dual isolator, they have 4 terminals at the bottom, can you use them to take 2 sets of tails of them.
And what size earth should be used for the SPD when using 25mm tails and Is connecting it in parallel to the main earth correct...
Hi Guys,
Looking for some options to provide surge protection to a 100a TPN sub main to be wired 60m from the origin
Im currently looking at installing a 4 way TPN mccb panel board with spd at the origin but it looks as if its going to cost the best part of a grand
This is obviously a far...
Hi all
i have just recently watched the NAPIT webinar on SPD’s and it says a Type 1 SPD device should be installed in premises supplied by overhead lines
I’m assuming including domestic properties
up to now I have only been using type 2’s in the consumer unit
is everyone fitting type 1 in...
I know there are many MFT's out there which can test SPD's, but they all cost thousands of pounds, and I personally can't justify that cost which currently isn't mandated.
However it would be nice to know that when I install a SPD that it will function.
Is there a way of testing such a device...
Need advice please, I've been reading alot on spds and came across this, please read the picture I have posted, I am querying "equipment" if the type 2 spd is installed say before the fuseboard in a separate enclosure are we then classing the fuseboard as "equipment" and will the spd then...
I know this has been brought up before but as a QS for a housing association ,i have been asked my opinion on interpretation of the regulations concerning SPD with smoke alarms (assuming they are a safety service).
several scenarios exist here :
1. Upgrading or updating existing alarms (ie...
Adding an EC charger and looking at options to include an SPD.
The consumer unit is plastic (but in good condition)
Options seem to be to add an SPD (with isolator and MCB) before the consumer unit.
Or add an isolator before the EV charger with an SPD, isolator and MCB.
Or can an SPD be added...
Hi, I'm installing a new circuit in domestic dwellings for various housing associations my question is do I need to fit an SPD or would it be the responsibility of the housing association, the circuit supplies equipment in the garden I'm running a 2.5 twin and earth through the house fed from...
Does anyone know what size cable to use for a MCG type 2 SPD (3 phase) and what MCB.the manufacturers instructions don’t state any values!
also should i use 3 x single phase or a 3 phase MCB?
Hi all,
With Amendment 2 here has anyone found any good suppliers for SPD and RCBO domestic boards? I've found online a BG SPD + 8 RCBOs for about £190 which is about £40 cheaper than the local wholesaler. Are there any better deals out there for decent boards (I've seen 'Live' offering online...
So I need to add a new circuit, I was going to do it to amendment 2.. Its a commercial property and will be adding a new circuit for a defibrillator cabinet and associated accessories (lights)... There is a decent enough 3 phase board in place, but there is no SPD.. Obviously if we add a new...
Hello,
I have a Clipsal consumer unit with two "ways" unused and blanked off and potentially a third available as the Proteus Geyer B16 MCB is labelled as "spare". This consumer unit only contains the main double pole isolator and MCB's. Please see the below photo.
I am getting an EV charge...
Hi
We are looking to get an EV charger installed, and I asked for an SPD to be on the new CU that will be required for that.
The electrician has suggested that instead of having an SPD in the new CU, could replace the incoming isolator in the meter cupboard with one that has an SPD incorporated...
Am I on the right lines, I ask?
I've just recently moved into this house which is nicely equipped with a large 15 circuit CU unit with a split load x2 RCD's but first, I think an EICR would be a good idea to give a starting point reference at least, before any work is done
I'm considering having...
