I’m
An NICEIC DI.
I haven’t got around to doing my 18th yet and I haven’t got the new literature.
How do you determine if you need to fit an SPD board.
Should I start fitting these on all my jobs now?
Hi
Apologies if this has been covered.
With the extension of the requirements for Surge Protection, I am unsure as to whether this is only for new installations and DB changes, or if the regulation also applies to alterations or additions in the same way as RCD protection.
My thinking on...
I'm going to replace the consumer unit for a customer in rural Oxfordshire. The supply comes in overhead, drops down a telegraph-type pole into the ground, and runs about 2m to a recessed box in the wall (perhaps coming up in the cavity). I can't find the earth rod - probably entirely...
Hi Guys,
Having recently done my 18th, and various reading of SPD requirements, I feel that within the factory where I work (food industry), we should be using SPD's?
We have an onsite transformer which we own, 11kV to 400v, which then splits after the meter to two main switch panels, which...
In a domestic situation where dwelling would be used for air b & b would it still be classed as single dwelling? Would it be classed a comericial dwelling as people staying there and paying , also would there be requirement for surge protection , I Would assume so , as items in property value...
I am due to carry out my first fuse board change under the 18th edition, i need a risk assessment template for SPD devices.
and with regards to AFDD i am under the impression i just need to recommend it in the quotation.
Has anyone got any knowledge of a decent SPD that I can retrofit onto large panels?
Preferably I would like it to have its own enclosure and a set of VF contacts so that I can wire an audible alarm and light to them for ease of checking.
I am struggling to find anything suitable. The USA...
So I was installing a new split load Hager DB (with the integral SPD) and noticed that the SPD cartridges connected across the neutral and line poles of the SPD were rated differently. Is there a reason for these different ratings?

So am i correct than reg 443.4 means unless we provide a risk assesment that states why we are not using a spd in consumer unit changes then we must fit one??
Has anyone done this yet on a budget?
I'm pricing a job to run a submain off a TN-S.
I'll need a fused switch incorporating SPD alongside in the same enclosure. Price sensitive. Thinking of a budget Lewden off the shelf fused switch (in 4 module enclosure), ditching the enclosure and buying 6...
Hi guys, hopefully someones going to be able to point me in the right direction here.
We do a lot of work for a small retirement home locally that has recently decided to fit lightning protection. We've pretty much been strong armed into fitting SPD's on behalf of the lightning firm (LF). Being...
I am about to install a new high integrity wylex fuseboard within a church which will require a combined type 1 & 2 SPD as the church has a lightning conductor system in place. Can anybody confirm the connections to this as it is placed within the fuseboard upstream of the main switch.
I was assembling a large distribution unit today. Hager type with a 500A main switch. There are 10 x 100A MCCBs going to be installed The board, MCCBs etc came in a kit, which also had a surge protection device with it. The client did specify the nee for the SPD however the SPD itself has...
