Can someone clarify, plastic Rawl plugs are not to be used now, due to fire regulations.

What would you use in exchange for your day to day fixings now?

dewalt walldog screws they dont need a plug and can go in the wall on there own. You can still use them and interspace with other fixings.
Alternatively if in trunking use them as you do now but add some firefly clips in to prevent premature collapse at regular intervals.

I had not seen the firefly clips before, is this a work around to make plastic trunking viable still due to updated fire regs?

yes, i saw a video recently actually on youtube where they used them.. it is by GSH electrical

Also something I have been thinking is using metal saddles for plastic conduit... the metal saddle would prevent the cables collapsing in the event the plastic conduit itself melted and collapsed. could use as an alternative to plastic ones. again use the walldog screws.

Plastic wall plugs are fine, and will still be fine in February next year, anyone for compliance with BS 7671, anyone who says otherwise is simply wrong.

Ive actually just done a job like this, the galv saddles and white pvc conduit actually look pretty smart together

If the rawl plugs in the wall fail it's probably too late to worry about cables...

I want to know how you fix cables in wooden buildings to prevent the cables obstructing walk ways. All this talk of rawl plugs not being allowed is nonsense.

I have seen fire alarm lads using the pvc conduit / metal saddle approach for years. You can get painted metal saddles too for a neater finish.

You can get white metal saddles.
