Hi folks,

I’m new to the forum and it’s this issue that lead me here.

So first things first. I was looking to wire in a Smart Relay at the rose of my hallway light. It’s got two switches. Now I thought I had “ok” knowledge when it came to wiring a socket / light switch / rose.

However, undoing the rose has thrown me off. I then looked behind the switches and I’m confused.

This flat is only just over a year old. Am I being silly here?

Should the rose only have live, neutral and ground connected? I assumed there would be switch live etc.

Also behind one of the switches there seems to be a lot of cable.

So, am I being silly / in over my head? Is this the way it’s usually done?

Looks like it's wired with neutrals at the switch rather than at the rose. This method is used a lot these days because of the difficulty often found in trying to cram 3 twin and earth's into modern light fittings.

Plus it makes the use of smart switches more straightforward.

Ok doke, thanks for clarifying.

So I guess there's really no way for me to attach this smart relay at the rose? Assume I can't just connect the live in and live out to the bulb in the L In and L Out ports.

The wiring looks so messy behind that switch I wouldn't really know where to start wiring it up and I don't think the relay would fit anyway.
