If it happens then we must all stand together and not do it, then what will they do if there are no more 2391 qualified sparks?

The problem with this country, we all just roll over and tow the line time after time.

Cheers.............Howard

Bad move on there part, but if you want a job all the employers are asking for 2391 so they have a captive market and can take us all to the cleaners. Rip off Britain.

All I can say at this one is: Enough is Enough. They say for every car manufacturing plant job depends 10 other jobs in one way or another. I am not sure the electrician is far off either, carrying more and more people on our backs. For me that'd be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Might as well take up labouring or shelf stacking. It's hard not to despair at times.

Where does this hearsay crap come from?

Until its written all over the schemes websites and the IET's don't believe it. Its probably some too good numpty standin there with his gold card drapped round his neck, scaremongering his mates.

I'm sick of hearing how the industry is going to change that you can't get in unless your in 'our' club.....and you have 'our' quals. Basically the JIB mob. Thats why I stay well clear.

I doubt if the JIB were responsible for this ridiculous rumour, and that's coming from this 'gold-carded numpty'.

The JIB, along with other industry bodies set the grading criteria for membership of their scheme.

The idea was that employers could be assured of certain levels of competence without having to interpret and check the myriad of qualification titles and numbers.

At the end of the day, if you have the qualifications to be awarded the grade you desire then you should probably get graded, it can only enhance your prospects.

If you haven't then so what, there are plenty of other avenues open to you but don't bang on about JIB Gold Card holders as if we are mounting some sort of vendetta against non Gold Card holders, it's a bit silly.

Seems that way to me over past threads. If you aint JIB approved you're not an electrician apparently.

So I'm told anyway!

i find it easier just not having to bring all your certificates to every start or interview all listed on your card

You right mate and its good to have all qualifications listed on one card.

Only thing i find tiring and also something thats splits the industry is these gradeings. They only seem to benefit people who sat full apprentiships.

They don't offer a site assessment to prove competency, just 'you must have NVQ3' which most lads can't get because of lack of funding or unsupportive employers.

I don't care what IQ or anyone else says there is a divide in the industry because of this. The gold card holders look down on those who don't have it. Even though they may be inexperienced sparks themselves.

Over the last couple of days I've read at least 2 threads started by someone who is JIB approved and has in the past mocked me for not being JIB approved calling me a labourer etc with what can only be described as fundamental knowledge. I have no doubt that everyone can't know 'everything' in this game.

With regards to all that as a whole and this thread. These hearsay political theories do tend to come from the same type of people. The JIB approved lot.

Ah, 'the approved lot' I've got a Technician grade so I'm exempt from that paranoid closing statement...

electricalserv i agree with some of your points

i was lucky a served a 4 year apprenticeship but you have to accept there has to be some guideline as to what standards are accepted and then obviously when it is peoples ability there are going to be some very large grey areas and big difference of opinions but i think it unfair to say ' gold card holders look down on those who dont i know i dont

what quals do you have ? or are you not getting a crd now out of principal ?

just on the nvq thing now would be the time to try and get it as its changing to 2357 dipolma which will open up all sorts worms when trying to obtain a grading if you have this qual and not that one or part of this and part of that

Hi lucas.

No I can't get a JIB card without the nvq3. I have both tech certs level 2&3 2330, 17th Edition & 2391-10. Member of Napit. Work for myself in the domestic and light commercial sector.

I agree that there must be some sort of guidline but to seperate the industry by one qualification is where it is wrong. I paid for my own quals, as never had an employer to fund throughout college. All above quals paid myself.

To come on a forum and be told I'm not an electrician because I'm not JIB Approved is what has annoyed me.

I'm not going anymore off topic though

Electricalserv, good for you for gaining your quals. and well done, I sincerely mean that, however, I have not said you are not an electrician because you don't hold a gold grade card, I have retaliated to your attacks on what constitutes a sparks job. I agree with IQ that it would be beneficial for your job/company prospects if you had one and as far as I can tell you have done all the hard work regarding certs. so doing an NVQ3 should be a doddle! Whilst we are on the JIB subject though, I have to point out that they are not a scheme or a mob but are in fact the industries main regulator of the National Working rules for the electrical contracting industry and are recognised as such by the majority of companies and the union and have been since 1969. So good luck mate and all the very best with your endeavors.:sifone:
