hey guys

im not an electrician, just lloking for some advice.

hiring a unit in a big barn. which has 3 rooms side b side, with 1 light in one and 2 in another. they are all controlled by one switch, i was hoping to put the 2 in the other room on there own switch. they are 4 foot twins it seems they have just took a t+e from the first light and gone to other 2 looping in and out of the fitting. the switch is under the consumer unit and in singles, with just one t+e to first light.

just wondering if it was possible to have the 2 in the other room on there own switch
thanks guys

any help would be apperciated

Yes indeed it would, however lighting circuits do cause a lot of problems because the identification of conductors do not follow the normal rules, consequently testing is required to ensure what is what and in the intrests of your own safety would require an electrician to sort it out for you.

Its cheaper and safer in the long run. If you feel confident enough to tackle it yourself I would suggest that you take pictures and post them here so we can see what is going on that way at least you wont be describing something incorrectly and getting the wrong advice.

As it is not your own property there could be all sorts of implications if you start altering the electrical installation yourself, as an unqualified person and without the owners consent - and then if it goes wrong

hey, the set up is a switch under the consumer in plastic tube, with 2 browns at the switch . with one twin and earth going up to the 5 ft fitting, then one out of the fitting to the other 2 fittings, looping in and out
