Discuss Adding New Meter/Main Combo in front of existing Main. in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Looking for some assistance here as I have received different bids from different electricians. We live in Florida and have a Generator for emergency use, but have no way to power the house save for an extension cord currently. We are also remodeling our kitchen and are wanting to upgrade our main electrical panel (just adding more spaces as current panel (200 amp service) is full). I've decided that I want to do 2 (or 3 - depending on how you look at it) improvements that will satisfy these different objectives.

1) upgrading Meter panel to a Meter/Main Combo (200 Amp) located on side of house. This will be a GE tsmr820csflfmg with feed through lug
2) Include interlock kit on this New Main so as to facilitate Generator input (50 AMP). I will also be wiring up a plug in to feed the NEW Main.
3) Convert current Main Panel (200 Amp - 10 ft. away in garage) to sub panel.

I believe what needs to happen to convert the current main to a sub panel is that I need to separate the current ground and neutral on the old main, run a new ground wire off the NEW main panel to the Ground, making sure the neutrals and grounds are separated (neutrals must be isolated from the box) at the old panel.
The existing meter panel already has grounds. Would I need to replace these? Thinking not.

What am I missing?

It sounds like you have it under control. Just remember that you are required to install an SPD On your main panel which stands for surge protection device and you will need 2 ground rods at least 6 feet apart
