My Brother send me this, awaiting photos
my reply was curt and informed the tenant of his rights, sounds like the sparkie is a muppet

Someone at work has just moved into a rented flat, he's just shown me pictures.

It has an electric shower, and when they switch it on sparks come out - between the heater and the tiles in the shower cubicle. He showed me pictures and the scorch marks are visible on the tiles.

The letting agent sent round an "electrician" who doesn't see anything wrong with it!

Can you send pictures etc?

sounds like a wet-pants has installed the shower.

Be interesting to see the fault, the last time I came across this in a shower the sparks were coming from a failed MI pot!

It's not so much of a black art when you can see the magic shooting out the end of the cable.

There was enough slack and access to the cable to remove the pot, dry the cable, and strip back a few inches to remove the arc damaged conductors. Although I now know from this forum that I should have ripped the entire circuit out.

You need this in writing along with the electricians report. See what the letting agent says when you ask for it.

I am willing to bet that its a private rental, advertised in a local paper or the internet,

I visited one recently in my area, the owners could not afford to rewire the house, it has been in the family since it was built in 1961, they live in a 2.25M house and have several expesnive all wheel drive motorcars on the drive !
I left it with the local council to prosecute them
the plumber fitted the electric shower, no certificate, no earth from the cut out to the consumer unit
and the supplied earth from the suppliers was loose
reason ?
they had levered the meter cabinet out to run a cable through the cavity to the shower
some times I wonder why I bother
